# 8. Token Utility

$HAP is the central asset of the Hero Arena Play ecosystem. Its utility extends across gameplay, governance, and ecosystem participation. The design objective is to create demand for $HAP at every stage of player engagement — from the casual player minting their first NFT to the competitive player staking for ranked-season multipliers to the long-term holder voting on protocol direction.

### 8.1 In-Game Utility

#### Wager Battle Stakes (Primary Utility)

The largest, highest-frequency utility for $HAP is its use as a wager asset in peer-to-peer Wager Battles. Two players each escrow an equal $HAP amount; the winner takes the pot minus a 3% rake. Wager Battles are expected to be the **highest-volume sink** in the ecosystem at scale because:

* Every match is an instance of $HAP being locked, then partially burned via the rake's buyback share
* Wager volume scales with engagement and skill ceiling, not just with content drops
* A single committed player may complete dozens of wager matches per day

#### NFT Mint Purchases

NFTs (Avatars, BattleFields, Weapons, Armors) are minted by paying $HAP in the in-game shop. NFT mints are a primary sink for $HAP. Mint pricing is denominated in $HAP, with periodic adjustments to maintain target USD-equivalent prices as $HAP price fluctuates.

A meaningful share of mint revenue (40%) is routed directly into the buyback-and-burn mechanism (see Tokenomics 7.7).

#### Marketplace Trading

$HAP is the default trading currency on the Marketplace. While players can trade NFTs in BNB or BUSD, $HAP-denominated trades have reduced platform fees, encouraging $HAP usage. The 5% Marketplace transaction fee is partially routed into the $HAP buyback mechanism.

#### Tournament Entry Fees

Competitive tournaments charge entry fees in $HAP. A portion of the entry pool is distributed to winners; the remainder feeds the buyback-and-burn mechanism.

#### Spectator Prediction Market Positions (Phase 3-4)

When the Spectator Prediction Market launches, $HAP will be a primary asset for taking outcome positions on featured matches and tournaments. This significantly expands $HAP demand beyond active players to the much larger spectator population.

#### Energy Refills

Dungeons and certain repeatable PvE modes consume energy. Energy regenerates over time naturally (free) or can be refilled instantly with $HAP, similar to mobile-game stamina systems.

#### Marketplace Listing Fees

Sellers pay a small $HAP-denominated fee to list assets on the Marketplace. This deters spam listings and provides another sink.

### 8.2 Earning $HAP Through Gameplay

$HAP is **earned through skill-based competitive play**, never through passive holding of game assets.

#### Ranked PvP Rewards

Each ranked PvP victory pays a $HAP reward scaled by:

* The player's rank tier (higher tier = larger rewards)
* The opponent's MMR relative to the player's (upset wins pay more)
* A daily cap to prevent automation/farming

#### Season-End Leaderboard Rewards

The top 1,000 players each ranked season receive substantial $HAP payouts plus exclusive Title NFTs. Reward distribution is steeply progressive — Top 10 receives a meaningfully larger share than ranks 100–1000.

#### PvE Challenge Rewards

First-time completion of a Challenge pays a fixed $HAP reward. Repeat completions pay a smaller "daily" reward, capped per challenge per day.

#### Tournament Prize Pools

Scheduled tournaments pay out prize pools directly in $HAP, with the prize structure published before each tournament.

### 8.3 Staking

$HAP holders can stake their tokens to earn rewards and unlock ecosystem benefits.

#### Staking Rewards

Staked $HAP earns rewards from the dedicated Staking Rewards allocation (10% of total supply, 4-year linear release). APR is dynamic and depends on the total stake size and the current emission rate.

#### Tier-Based Benefits

Stake tiers unlock progressive in-game benefits:

Stake tiers reduce the available sell pressure from holders who would otherwise dump $HAP after earning it, while producing a positive flywheel: better players stake more → earn boosted rewards → reinvest in the game.

### 8.4 Governance

Hero Arena will progressively transition to community governance.

**Phase 1 (TGE → 12 months):** Core team retains operational control. Community has signaling-only votes on non-critical proposals.

**Phase 2 (12 → 24 months):** A Hero DAO is launched. Stakers gain binding vote power on:

* Balance patch direction
* Tournament prize-pool sizing
* Marketplace fee structure
* Ecosystem treasury grants

**Phase 3 (24+ months):** Full governance handover, including treasury control, parameter changes, and protocol upgrades. Core team retains only emergency-pause rights, eventually relinquished.

Voting power is calculated as **staked $HAP × stake duration multiplier** (longer stakes weigh more), to ensure long-term holders set protocol direction rather than transient flash-loan voters.

Hero Arena Play's economy is engineered so that **at scale, sinks exceed emissions**, putting net deflationary pressure on $HAP. Wager activity is expected to be the dominant sink because it scales with engagement frequency rather than content release cadence — every active player can produce dozens of wager-rake events per day. The Economy Design section quantifies the modeled equilibrium.

> **Note on Wager Battle winnings.** Wager winnings are *redistributive* — they transfer $Hap between players rather than creating new emission. The 3% rake is a net removal of $HAP from the player-held pool, half of which is then permanently burned via buyback. So while wager activity moves a lot of $HAP between wallets, on net it reduces circulating supply.
